News: Birthday Book Gift

Books for kids on their birthday . . . a special gift to our future. The Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Club is pleased to sponsor the Rotary Birthday Book Program in Fond du Lac.

On their birthday, we present to each student in Fond du Lac’s nine public elementary schools, their choice of a book that they can keep. With the assistance of school librarians/media specialists, we distribute almost 3,500 books each year. This could not be done without the help and dedication of the media specialists.

This year Morning Rotary received a very generous gift. It was presented at the club’s October 8, 2009, meeting by Tom Schmitz, in memory of his wife, Judy Schmidt, a long time staff member at Parkside School’s Title 1 reading program. Judy loved kids and valued reading.

Morning Rotary recently qualified to participate in the Scholastic Literacy Partnership, a program were Scholastic offers books at a greatly reduced cost to organizations who give books away to children.
